PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily obtain diaryl oxalate useful as a raw material of a chemical agent, etc., by subjecting an alkyl aryl oxalate to a disproportionating reaction, wbile suppressing the generation of various by-products. SOLUTION: An alkyl aryl oxalate is subjected to a disproportionating reaction at 100-280 deg.C with removing by-produced dialkyl oxalate in the presence of a proportionating catalyst (e.g. tetraphenoxytitanium) by using a reactor composed of a reaction distillation column. A concentration of the proportionating catalyst in the reacting solution is 0.001-45wt.%. The proportionationg reaction of the alkyl aryl oxalate can also be performed in coexisting with phenols. An organic tin compound or a Lewis acid compound of titanium is preferably used as the proportionating catalyst in an amount of 0.0001-50wt.% to the alkyl aryl oxalate. |
