PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a looped nonlinear optical mirror(NOLM) of an optical fiber, of which are action is not affected by signals and the polarization of the signals on control input. SOLUTION: The loop of the NOLM is composed of the four sections T1, T2, T3, T4 of the polarization maintaining type optical fiber equal in optical distances. These four sections are optically connected to each other at three points by three splices E1, E2, E3. The propagation neutral axis of the polarization maintaining type optical fiber is rotated 90 deg. in the first and third splices E1, E3. An optical demultiplexer and optical multiplexer as well as a mode converter having two polarization maintaining type optical paths which are connected with these multiplexers are inserted into the lop in the second splice E2. |
