PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the effect of an electric field and to improve switching characteristics by forming an orientation controlling film consisting of an amide polymer and a polypyridine polymer on a face of one of a pair of substrates brought into contact with a liq. crystal compsn. SOLUTION: Reduced resistance and uniform orienting property are imparted to an orientation controlling film without passing through a doping process by forming the film with a mixture of an electrically conductive n-type polymer with an insulating p-type polymer. The p-type polymer is preferably an electron donative polymer, a polymer having noπ-conjugated system is used and an amide polymer such as polyamide or polyimide is preferably used in consideration of liq. crystal orienting property. The n-type polymer is preferably an electron accepting polymer and a polymer having aπ-conjugated system such as polypyridine or its deriv. is used. |
