PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a drug preparation capable of efficiently holding a hydroxamic acid compound and releasing the compound at a sustained rate by using the hydroxamic acid compound together with a specific polymer degradable in vivo. SOLUTION: A hydroxamic acid compound is used in combination with a polymer having a free carboxyl group and degradable in vivo. At least one of the above components is used in the form of a metal salt. The metal salt is preferably selected from Ca, Mg, Al, Zn and Fe salts. The polymer degradable in vivo is preferably anα-hydroxycarboxylic acid polymer or a lactic acid- glycolic acid copolymer. The sustained release agent can be produced e.g. by dissolving or dispersing a hydroxamic acid compound and a polymer having a free carboxylic acid and degradable in vivo in an organic solvent using at least one of the hydroxamic acid compound and the polymer in the form of a metal salt, adding the solution or dispersion to an aqueous phase and drying in water. The sustained release agent is preferably used in the form of microcapsule and is most suitable for injection.
