PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a temporary down-shift for an engine brake only with one time down-shift requesting operation by a method wherein a down-shift means for use in shifting temporarily from the present gear stage to a gear stage lower than the former by one stage in response to a down-shift request operation is provided in an automatic transmission range selection. SOLUTION: During a D-range running operation, a shift lever is operated to change over it to an H range, a range map Mi corresponding to a gear stage (i) at that time is selected so as to perform an H range running operation. During an H range running, when a down-shift request operation is carried out, the map Mi of any one of (c) to (e) (if the present gear stage (i) is the fourth speed, for example, M4 range map) is stored. Then, in order to change over the range map to an Mi-1 range map of a gear stage (i-l) lower than the present gear stage (i) by one stage, the running state indicated by a point Pi is changed from (e) to a third-speed available region (d) and then it is possible to realize a down-shift transmission from the fourth-speed to the third-speed for the engine brake. |
