<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a scene change frame in a moving image. SOLUTION: A video signal inputted through a picture input part 10 is stored in a picture storage part 12 in each prescribed frames. A scene cutting part 14 reads out respective frames, finds out the sum of luminance values and finds a difference from an adjacent frame. When the difference exceeds a prescribed value, the frame is judged as a scene changing frame and a series of frames between the scene change frame and a succeeding scene change frame is set up as a scene candidate section. A representative area extracting part 16 extracts a luminance value common to respective frames in the scene candidate section and having high appearance frequency as a representative area. The extracted area is supplied to a representative area collating part 18 and collated with a respective area in the preceding scene candidate section. When- similarity between the represtantive areas of both the scene candidate sections is high, a scene merging part 20 merges both the scene candidate sections as one scene and outputs the scene. When the similarity is low, each scene candidate section is directly outputted as one scene.</p> |
