The wood chopping machine has a hydraulically driven blade (4) which splits wood vertically. Each side of the working position photo-electric gates (17,18) monitor the position of reflectors (22,23) on the backs of the groves worn by the operator. If reflections are sensed then the safety system operates relays to inhibit the operation of the blade. The equipment is a self contained unit with an IC engine to drive the hydraulic pump. The photo-electric gates are aligned not to interfere with each other. When not required they are stored in a protected mounting. The photo-electric gates are positioned approx. at half the operating height of the cutting blade. |
