PRODUCTION OF DIALKYL CARBONATE AND DIOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dialkyl carbonate and dial in high conversion and selectivity by the reaction of a cyclic carbonate with an aliphatic monoalcohol under specified conditions. SOLUTION: The dialkyl carbonate and diol are obtained by reaction of a cyclic carbonate (e.g. ethylene carbonate) with an aliphatic monoalcohol (e.g. methanol) in the presence of a catalyst with homogeneous system under the condition satisfying the relationship: u=(X/Y)<=4 (X is the water concentration by weight in the feedstock mixture; Y is the homogeneous catalyst concentration by weight in the feedstock mixture) (pref. u<=1; as the combination of (u) and X range, it is preferable that X is <=1wt.% and (u) is <=2. The catalyst is pref. a basic compound (e.g. NaOH), its concentration being 0.00001-15wt.%. The molar ratio of the aliphatic monoalcohol to the cyclic carbonate is 0.05-100. The reaction is carried out at 0-350 deg.C under a pressure of 0.00001-100kg/cm<2> for 0.01-40h.
