PURPOSE:To suppress coloring in a light state by aligning the transmission axis of the electric vector of a polarizer with a direction perpendicular to the left mean molecule long axis of ferroelectric liquid crystal in right twist interface structure. CONSTITUTION:When a ferroelectric liquid crystal element 1 is viewed in the direction from the polarizer P as a polarizing plate close to a light source 5 to an analyzer A as a polarizing plate close to an observer 4, interface molecules of the ferroelectric liquid crystal 1 are twisted in a right rotating direction and thus oriented. When two mean molecule long axes 2 and 3 and a rubbing axis R are viewed in two bistable states of the orientation state so that the intersections of those axes are on the lower side, the transmission axis P of the electric vector of the polarizer P is almost aligned with the direction perpendicular to the left mean molecule long axis 2 on the left side of the rubbing axis R between the mean molecule long axes. Consequently, the coloring of the whole panel is suppressed to obtain the ferroelectric liquid crystal display device of high display quality. |
