PURPOSE: To obtain a sheety molding excellent in mechanical properties such as impact strength and bending strength, heat resistance and corrosion resistance by mixing a polyarylene thioether prepared by a specified method with a fibrous reinforcement. CONSTITUTION: A sheety molding made from a composition comprising 5-70wt.% fibrous reinforcement and 30-95wt.% substantially linear polyarylene thioether having a melt viscosity of 1000-40000P (at 310 deg.C and a shear rate of 200 deg.C/sec) and satisfying the following requirements A and B, A: the resin comprises a polyarylene thioether and at least partially consists of 50-95mol% repeating units of formula I and 5-50mol% repeating units of formula II, and B: it is prepared by a reaction at 180-235 deg.C in the presence of 0.5-2.4mol of water per mol of an alkali metal sulfide to form an intermediate product of a solution viscosity of 5-300P at a conversion of the dihaloaromatic compound of 50-98mol.% and further reacting this product at 245-290 deg.C in the presence of 2.5-7mol of water per mol of an alkali metal sulfide. |
