The connector to join two timber boards (4, 5) together end to end and prevent them from warping, consists of a plate (1) made from a metal which can be treated or a plastic material, having one or more projecting vanes (2) to engage with pre-cut grooves (3) in the back of the board, and spikes (6) to hold it in place. The rigidity of the plate can be increased by a fold or corrugations, and both the vanes and spikes can be sharpened to increase their penetration. The tips of the vanes are folded at an angle of other than 90 degrees, and the spikes can be either triangular or X-shaped.
