A piston for operation of a hydraulic brake produced in a cold-forming process, for example a deep-drawing process, has a relatively thin outer wall (4) which has a cross-section smaller than the desired contact surface (A) for the contact of the piston (1) with the brake lining. According to the invention, it is proposed to roll the edge (3) of the pot-shaped piston (1) inwards and then to machine it from its face so that an enlarged contact surface (A) can be produced at a low price.
