The working desk includes a section of worktop which is able to slide horizontally, opening to allow access to a computer which is stored within the desk. The computer sits on a cantilever supported platform, so it is able to rise up to an operating position standing up above the desk surface. A motor and pulley system is provided, so that at the touch of a button the computer screen is raised into the operating position. Similarly it may be retracted in order to leave a clear working surface. The supporting structure for the computer is made of aluminium struts and profiles, with an X-shaped support lying under the support plate. End-of-course detector switches are built into the mechanism, in order to stop the driving motor when the computer assembly reaches the required position. The motor and control system operates from mains voltage alternating current, connected via a transformer.
