Reciprocating machine with tilting swashplate

The reciprocating piston engine or motor has reciprocating motion converted to rotary motion using a swashplate (3) attached to the central drive shaft (4). The amplitude of the reciprocating movement is variable. The pistons (2) move on axes parallel to that of the drive shaft and are connected to the swashplate by dumbbell-shaped piston rods whose enlarged spherical ends fitting into spherical recesses (6) in the piston and the swashplate. The non-rotating swashplate is held on a roller bearing (7) on a collar which rotates with the shaft and can tilt on the shaft.
