A drive for positioning an electrically driven regulating element (4) has a control device for determining the latter's position by measurement of the current supply to the drive device. Current is determined by means of a physical arrangement (6-8) that moves with the placing element (4). The arrangement (6-8) has a permanent magnet arrangement (6) comprised of four sections (6a-6d) of alternating polarity, a switching component (7) and a resistance (8) connected to the electrical servo-motor (2) and the switching component (7). The latter changes its state according to the polarity of the magnet (6). When this occurs a measurable alteration of the drive current supply occurs.
