A piston rod (3 or 8), provided with a piston, is driven in a sliding manner in the cylinder tube (2 or 3) of a telescopic prop, wherein the annular space formed around the piston rod is closed by a threaded ring (6 or 10) screwed into the cylinder tube (2 or 3) . The screw joint is secured by a annular washer (16 or 17), which engages using special deformations, i.e. strips (24) in a cut out (20 or 21) in the threaded ring (6 or 10). The washer (16 or 17) is secured to the cylinder tube (2 or 3) either by a further deformed strip (25) engaging a cut-out (22) or by a pin (18) engaging a bore (19) in the tube (3) (figure 3, not shown).
