A water-collecting device for vehicles is proposed which can be arranged at the side of the windscreen or over a door cutout and can be moved out of its operative position into a position of rest not projecting with respect to the outer contour of the vehicle. An automatic control of the water-collecting strip occurs as a function of the operation of the windscreen wipers or of the door position and additionally as a function of the external temperature, the outwards movement of the water-collecting strip only occurring at temperatures over the freezing point of water or of a water-salt solution.
