In an open end spinning appts., the transport surface (12) together with the suction zone (14) forms a fibre separation stage (27). The yarn take-off speed, set by the take-off unit, is at least equal to the rotating surface speed of the transport surface (12). Preferably the transport surface (12) is formed by the circumference of a mesh roller (3), a sieve disc or a mesh belt. An air jet, to impose a twist on the spun yarn, is between the yarn spinning line (31) and the yarn take-off. The length of the yarn spinning line (31) is larger than the width of the fibre flow. The transport surface can have a linear profiling round the circumference direction (C).
