The invention concerns the use as corrosion-inhibitors of quaternized imidazoles (I), wherein R<1> and R<3>, independently of each other, designate saturated or unsaturated C1-C12 hydrocarbon groups which can be substituted by groups having an oxygen function or interrupted by non-adjacent oxygen atoms; R<2>, R<4> and R<5>, independently of one another, designate hydrogen or saturated or unsaturated C1-C12 hydrocarbon groups which can be substituted by groups having an oxygen function or interrupted by non-adjacent oxygen atoms, R<4> and R<5> being able to form a five- or six-member ring together with the corresponding imidazole carbon atoms; and X<O> stands for an anion. These substances are used for protecting nonferrous metals against corrosion, in particular for protecting radiators in the automotive field.
