In a counter overflow processing method and device, especially in a device and method for controlling flow of cells, a counter value tcd obtained by subtracting the cell identification number corresponding to a connection cn from a global time counter value tc is defined as a local time counter value corresponding to the connection cn. An overflow flag of the local time counter value tcd, OVF, is simply updated only for the connection cn at the time when the global time counter value tc reaches the cell identification number n for the connection cn. The time when a cell for the connection cn is received is detected by subtracting the cell identification number n for the connection cn from the global time counter value tc at the time when that cell is received, which corresponds to the local time counter value tcd at that time. <IMAGE> |
