Collecting halogenated hydrocarbon impurities in waste water

A process treats waste water, especially waste water bearing a load of halogenated hydrocarbons. The novelty is that: (a) the waste water is collected in a vessel where it is standardised in a static mixer unit, and brought to a pH of between to 6 before or after the mixing process; (b) the standardised and conditioned water is then exposed one or more times to an electron beam treatment process, until the AOX (absorbable halogen) has reduced to a value <= 20 mg/l; (c) the waste arising from stage (b) is subjected to a single or multi-stage membrane treatment process of nano-filtration and/or reverse osmosis, or a first and second reverse osmosis, or a combination of nano-filtration and several reverse osmosis stages; (d) the permeate fluid is subjected to one or more membrane treatment stages in a water treatment plant; (e) the resulting concentrate is repeatedly evaporated and condensed until the reside is fit for disposal, and the condensed vapours returned to the waste water vessel in stage (a).
