A process for the production of laminates, by (a) compounding thermoplastic materials with additives, (b) extruding from an extruder as filaments, (c) cooling to a temperature below the m.pt., (d) chopping to powder, (e) spreading on a metal strip, (f) smoothing the layer of material with rollers,(g) smoothing the edges by removing projecting material and (h) then sintering the laminate. Also claimed is an apparatus for this process, comprising an extruder (22) for producing the filaments, a cooling bath (24), a cutter (26) with sieve (27) for reducing filaments to powder, a device for spreading the powder on a metal strip, rollers for smoothing, an edge cutter and a sintering furnace.
