Perylene 3, 4, 9, 10-tetracarboxylic acid diimide pigments of formula: (where X and X' are 2-15C aliphatic or 6-8C cycloaliphatic gps.; (pref. 2-6C alkylene) R and R' are 1-7C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl, or phenyl or naphthyl opt. substd. with 1-4C alkyl, 1-2C alkoxy, Cl, Br or F, (pref. 1-3C alkyl or phenyl). Y is Cl or Br; n is 0-3. Used for colouring of paints, resins, printing inks, distempers, and mass colouring of plastics in orange to bluish-red shades. Also as vat dyes. Good to very good fastness to light and weather. Fastness to solvents, over-painting and plasticisers is very good to excellent.
