PURPOSE:To obtain high magnetic field current density and excellent mechanical strength by forming a compressed powder molding with the theoretical density of the preset value or above and an intermediate sintered body and a sintered body with the oxide superconducting powder and the precursor powder of the oxide superconductor. CONSTITUTION:At least one of the oxide superconducting powder and the precursor powder of the oxide superconductor is pressurized and molded to obtain a compressed powder molding with the compression density of 60% or above against the theoretical density. This molding is heated at 800-1100 deg.C for the preset time in the oxygen atmosphere, for example, it is then gradually cooled in the intermediate heat treatment to obtain an intermediate sintered body 1 with the compression density of 70% or above against the theoretical density of zero porosity. The sintered body 1 thus manufactured is filled in a metal tube 2 to form a composite body 3. Shrink processing is applied to the composite body 3 with a rotary swaging device A to compress the sintered body 1.
