<p>The multi-band vehicular antenna has a sheet metal ground plane with a body trim piece elevated over it. A conducting loop passes through the trim piece and is connected to the ground plane at two points, such that the loop circumscribes a slot area between the ground plane and the conducting loop. A transmission line, has two conductors, the first is connected to the ground plane at a third point, whilst the second is connected to the conducting loop at a fourth point located along the slot area between the first two points. Two capacitors couple the conducting loop to the sheet metal ground plane at the first two second points, respectively. The capacitors provide a low impedance to the first band and a relatively higher impedance to the second, so that the antenna operates in a slot antenna mode in the first band and in a monopole antenna mode in the second.</p> |
