PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber formed in such a manner that the occurrence of induced Brillouin scattering is suppressed. SOLUTION: The core 2 of the single mode optical fiber consists of SiO2 glass contg. at least a first dopant to increase a refractive index and to lower the velocity of longitudinal acoustic waves and a second dopant to lower the refractive index and to lower the longitudinal acoustic waves and the clad 3 thereof consists of the SiO2 glass. The core diameter is changed in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber.
