摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device for which hologram color filters having good color reproducibility without degrading color purity even if a light source exclusive of a spot light source, such as mental halide lamp, is used by disposing an optical system for converting the angle of rays with an optical axis to a smaller angle into an optical path of illumination light. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has the optical system for converting the angle of the rays with the optical axis to the smaller angle in the optical path of the illumination light. Namely, a conical or pyramidal optical fiber having the larger diameter at the exit end then the diameter at the incident end or a conical or pyramidal optical fiber bundle 35 formed by bundling the conical or pyramidal optical fibers of which reach one piece of the optical fibers has such relation of the diameter of the ends is arranged into the luminous flux emitted from a positive lens 34. As a result, the parallelism of the incident illumination light on the hologram color filters is improved and the incidence of the light diffracted by the hologram color filters on liquid crystal cells exclusive of the liquid crystal cells displaying the colors corresponding to the wavelength components of the respective colors does not arise any more.
