PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an antimicrobial and antibromic fiber, safe for the human body and suitable as beddings, living-related materials or usual clothes by applying a water-soluble zinc compound and chitosan to a fiber. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial fiber is obtained by scouring and drying a polyester circular knitted jersey, applying chitosan dissolved in lactic acid thereto and then an aqueous solution of a water-soluble zinc compound such as zinc sulfate heptahydrate or applying a mixed solution of chitosan dissolved in the lactic acid and zinc sulfate heptahydrate or applying a mixed solution, prepared by mixing the chitosan dissolved in the lactic acid with the zinc sulfate heptahydrate and an alkaline compound such as sodium carbonate and regulating the pH within the range of 4.8-6.5 thereto or applying a mixed solution of the chitosan dissolved in the lactic acid and the alkaline compound at pH4.8-6.5 thereto and further applying the water-soluble zinc compound dissolved in water thereto. Thereby, the antimicrobial circular knitted jersey containing the water soluble zinc compound in an amount of 0.005-0.2wt.% expressed in terms of zinc and 0.1-2wt.% chitosan therein is obtained. |
