Nucleic acid encoding new potassium channel designated TWIK-1

New isolated, purified nucleic acid (I) encodes a protein (II) comprising a potassium channel with the properties of a TWIK (Tandem of P domains in a Weak Inward rectifying K+)-1 channel. Also new are: (1) vectors containing (I); (2) cells expressing TWIK-1 type channels after transformation with (I) or the vector; (3) method for screening compounds for modulating activity of TWIK-1 type channels; (4) isolated, purified (II); and (5) mono- or poly-clonal antibodies (Ab) against (II). The specification includes a (I) sequence of 1894 bp encoding a 336 amino acid (II).
