Continuous tubular knitted fabric

To produce a continuous tubular knitted fabric on a flat bed knitter, with at least two needle beds, the knitted tube diameter is set by the selection of the active zones of the needle beds. The first half of the knitted tube is formed at the first needle bed from a start point to the defined end point. During the knitting process, a weft yarn is laid in the stitches at the first needle bed, or bonded into the stitches. The second half of the knitted tube is formed at the second needle bed, from the end point to the start point and a row of stitches is removed and, on back knitting, the wefts are laid in the stitches of the second needle bed or knitted into the stitches. The process is repeated as necessary to give a knitted tube of the required axial length, with the inserted wefts giving an increased stability in the peripheral direction.
