摘要 The engine (1) is divided into two cylinder groups (1a,1b) each with a separate inlet manifold and separate fuel supply. One group operates between its zero and maximum torque to cover engine torque requirements up to a first level, while the second part of the engine free runs without any fuel supply. Above the first engine toque level the first section remains at its full torque while the second section provides additional torque between its zero and maximum torque. Using the separate throttle controls and separate fuel inlet controls a smooth torque characteristic is obtained, without requiring a sudden change in the throttle valves at the changeover point ie. when the second part of the engine comes into operation.
