Lubricating and separating agent comprises a polyester obtained by reacting one or more polyglycols of formula: H-O-CH2CH2x-O-CnH2n-O-CH2CH2Oy-H (where n = 2-6 (preferably 2-4); average for x and y = 0-22 and the average value for x+y = 2-44 (preferably 4-33, especially 4-22)), with a mixture of (a) dicarboxylic acids, and (b) a fatty acid chosen from: (i) one or more fatty acids and/or (ii) glycerin esters.
