Equipment for neuronal tissue photo-stimulation by infrared microscopy
摘要
The equipment includes a strong light source e.g. tunable dye laser or high-pressure discharge lamp for emitting into a thin quartz fibre (1) whose end is positioned in the image plane (2) of the epifluorescence beam (3). A greatly reduced image of the fibre end is formed in the object plane (4) so that large areas can be stimulated selectively. The stimulation is performed with ultraviolet light, while the affected area is viewed in infrared light. Depth discrimination is improved by introduction of a central screen in the pupillary plane of the ultraviolet beam.
