<p>Process for the preparation of pentenoic acid or a pentenoate ester starting from water or alcohol and a mixture of pentenoic acid chloride, chlorobutene and a palladium catalyst, wherein the mixture of pentenoic acid chloride, chlorobutene and the palladium catalyst is contacted with water or alcohol, the molar ratio of water or alcohol to pentenoic acid chloride is maintained lower than 1.2 and the molar ratio of chlorobutene to palladium is maintained higher than 10 during at least a substantial portion of the preparation.</p> |
