A clutch operating device comprises a component in which there are at least three hydraulically actuated subunits 3 each having a cylinder and a piston 9. The subunits 3 are uniformly spaced apart circumferentially around shaft 2 and joined to each other by a boundary surface 5 of the component which is shaped so as to provide gaps in the space between the subunits 3. Guide means are formed by first finger extensions (6, fig 2) which are arranged in the gaps between the subunits 3 and which project longitudinally, with respect to the shaft 2, from the surface 5. The first finger extensions (6, fig 2) have a spherically shaped inner profile that engages with a release bearing 1 and allows the bearing 1 to take-up by wobbling variations in the resilience of spring 10. An end of the pistons 9 act on second finger extensions 8 which extend radially and longitudinally from a support ring 7, thereby reducing the structural length of the device since the end of the pistons 9 overlap the support ring 7.
