A charge coupled device camera (9) is removably mounted in an adaptor (5), and the adaptor (5) is removably mounted in the viewing device, such as a video monitor, by a cable (11). At least one high intensity light (27) is also mounted in the adaptor (5) with the axis of the light (27) parallel to that of the camera (9). The light (27) is connected to an adjustable power source by a power supply cord (29). In one embodiment of the invention, a cervical position (1) is provided to allow the physician to align the patient's cervix with the camera's axis for optimal viewing.
