[Also in Group XXXIX] A matrix has two ferro-electric capacitors connected in series at each cross-point such that application of a voltage to the junction between the capacitors causes both to switch and deliver a pulse to each of their associated co-ordinate wires. Each cross-point of a 100 x 100 matrix identifies a subscriber to a telephone exchange and in response to 130 volts applied to the cross-point junction a pulse is put on the column wire to operate a transistor switch in a set of ten marking the thousands digit and a transistor switch in a set of ten marking the hundreds digit. The corresponding pulse put on the row wire operates transistor switches in two sets of ten marking the tens and units digits. The four operated transistor switches mark the four digits identifying the subscriber and for each digit causes the generation of a two-out-offive tone code. The dielectric of the capacitors may be barium titanate or guanidine aluminium sulphate hexahydrate.
