Two symmetrically located wedge-form separating tools (1) are introduced under large force in the dividing slot (2) between the bottom die plate (3) and core piece (4) of the extrusion die. The tool is automatically centred radially and axially by the separating forces (5) when lifting from a work table, and by means of the separating wedges (7) an axial release of the annular press fit (8) of the die plate and core piece is made possible.
