By recirculation through a heat carrier, the temperature difference between the expansion zone and expansion heat carrier or the compression heat carrier and the compression zone is broken down. This produces isothermal gas action. The intensity and phase of the recirculation flow are in contrast to the stationary intermediate heating or cooling such as with continuously operating compressors and turbines. The system can match the active or passive measures taken to recirculate the working gases.
