PURPOSE:To simplify construction and recording method by applying perpendicular/ parallel magnetic fields to a recording layer consisting of a liquid crystal which has the transition temp. higher than an ordinary temp. and lower than the temp. at the time of laser light projection while projecting laser light thereto, thereby executing recording/erasing. CONSTITUTION:Dianilsalbentidine which is a high-temp. crystal and indole cyanine dye which is a laser absorptive dye are dissolved at a prescribed weight ratio in a diacetone alcohol and the soln. is coated on the surface of a polymethyl methacrylate substrate 11. After the magnetic field perpendicular to the substrate 11 is passed through the coating, the coating is dried to form the recording layer 12. The laser light is projected to the recording layer 12 to make recording while the perpendicular magnetic field is kept impressed to the surface of the recording layer by setting electromagnets (a), (b) at the same magnetic piles. The recorded information is erased if the laser light is projected to said layer while the parallel magnetic field is kept impressed thereto by setting the electromagnets (a), (b) at the different magnetic poles. The need for bringing a contact into contact with the recording layer 12 is, therefore, eliminated and the construction and recording method are simplified. |
