PURPOSE:To retain high capacity for a long time by immersing a sintered porous nickel substrate in a mixed solution of nickel and cobalt salts having a molar ratio of 7:3-5:5, and treating with alkaline solution to form a solid solution layer of cobalt hydroxide and nickel hydroxide on the substrate, then filling active material in the substrate. CONSTITUTION:Nickel acetate solution and cobalt acetate solution each having a specific gravity of 1.4 at 20 deg.C are mixed so as to have a molar ratio of 7:3-5:5, preferably 6:4 to form a mixed solution. A sintered porous nickel substrate having a porosity of about 80% is immersed in the mixed solution, and immersed in an alkaline solution to form a nickel-cobalt solid solution layer, then immersed in a nickel nitrate aqueous solution having a specific gravity of 1.75, dried, and treated with alkaline solution. This process is repeated several times to impregnate a specified amount of active material to obtain a nickel electrode. Thereby, an electrode, of which utilization is high, corrosion resistance is good, and high capacity is retained for a long time, can be obtained. |
