PURPOSE:To obtain ceramics having high strength and excellent thermal shock resistance by preparing powdery starting material for ceramics, uniformly dispersing a specified amt. of long fibers made of the same material as the powdery starting material in the starting material, compacting and sintering the resulting mixture. CONSTITUTION:Powdery starting material for ceramics such as alumina or zirconia is prepd. and 3-20wt.% long fibers made of the same material as the powdery starting material and having >=100mum length are uniformly dispersed in the starting material. The resulting mixture is compacted into a prescribed shape and sintered. In order to uniformly disperse the long fibers in the powdery starting material, the starting material is mixed with the fibers and water and this mixture is dried, crushed, compressed and crushed again. |
