Insulating foam of low thermal conductivity and method of preparation.

The insulating foam is produced by blowing a formable resinous foam in an inert atmospheric with a gaseous mixture of CO2 and an inert gas, sealing the foam in a gas-impervious enclosure with a solid reagent capable of CO2 removal, removing CO2 from the sealed foam and leaving the inert gas. The inert gas has a thermoconductivity of up to 10 milliwatts/m/pK. The proportions of gases used during foam production are such that the partial pressure of inert gas in the enclosure is 20-200 Torr and the total pressure is up to 110% of the partial pressure.
