The battery charging voltage regulator comprises a first comparator (RFP) for comparing the battery voltage (UB+) with a control voltage (S1). A circuit (M1, F1) generates a signal (VP1) representing the speed of rotation of the alternator, and a second comparator (COMP) compares the signal with a variable reference signal (VP2). The first comparator (RFP) is intended to suppress the excitation of the alternator when the battery voltage (UB+) is greater than the control voltage (S1). The second comparator (COMP) is arranged to selectively establish and suppress the excitation of the alternator, as a function of the comparison between the signal (VP1) representing the rotation speed and the variable reference signal (VP2), when the battery voltage is less than the control voltage.
