A tyre with a tread pattern related to travel direction has circumferential and transverse channels forming tread profile elements, e.g. blocks (1), which themselves are divided by transverse fine cuts (3a, 3b) to create profile element areas of different stiffness (1'). Each profile element (1) has an alternative sequence of softer and harder profile element areas (1') commencing with the first profile block area in the rolling direction.
