PURPOSE:To obtain a porous material suitable as a high performance filter material by improving mechanical strength by a method wherein the porous material is composed of powdery synthetic resin forming an almost spherical body and a fibrous material, and its porosity is equipped with specific continuous pores. CONSTITUTION:Though thermoplastic resin having a melting point is preferable as an element of synthetic resin particulate to be used, thermosetting resin which is fusion welded by pressure heating also suffices. For example, polyolefin, polyamide, polyester, etc., are exemplified. A fibrous material is a microascicular material or a staple like material, and whiskers such as, for example, silicon carbide whisker, potassium titanate fiber, etc., are used. Herein, a porosity of synthetic resin porous material is 40% or over and preferably 50% or over. When it is 40% or under, resistance against aeration and liquid permeation, i.e., pressure loss is increased. Further, since a mesh is clogged soon, it is not suitable for a filter material. Besides, for that of 50% or over in porosity, the filter material which is extremely low in pressure loss, is obtained. |
