Grinding machine

A rotary grinding machine has a grinding disc (4) on a spindle (3), rotating in bearings at either end (6) in a headstock (2). There is a spindle for rotating the workpiece (5). At least one of the bearings is radially adjustable in the headstock and the grinding spindle can be adjusted relative to the workpiece through a piezoelectric actuator (12) to which is applied a defined electric field from the control unit. The actuator engages the bearing(s) which is/are spring-loaded. There is a measurement system(15) to monitor the workpiece, sending a corresponding signal to the control unit. The system comprises at least two sensors to measure the workpiece diameter at two locations.
