RATCHET NOISE SILENCING MECHANISM FOR FREEWHEEL OF A BICYCLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ratchet noise from being generated from a ratchet mechanism of a freewheel. SOLUTION: When a gear base is reversed in the direction of the arrow b, the inner circumference of the cage hole 61 of the gear base is in contact with the outer circumference of a sliding spring 70 so that by the frictional force therebetween the gear base and the spring 70 integrally rotate together by only the frictional force. The frictional force is less than that at the time of driving. The rotation of the gear base in the direction of the arrow b causes each pawl retainer for the cage 61 to push the outer periphery of the tip of the pawl 30 against the pawl spring 23 to oscillate for disengaging the pawl 30 from the ratchet teeth 11.
