PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston type hydraulic machine capable of being prevented from seizure simply at a low cost across the entire operational range. SOLUTION: A hydraulic machine is composed in such a way that a piston 3 may be allowed to make its reciprocating motion inside of each of plural cylinders 4 bored axially on the same circle of a cylinder barrel 2 turning around the shaft center. In this case, a groove 5b is formed in a part in the acting direction of a resultant force consisting of a lateral force available from a swash plate 8 and acting on the piston 3 on the inner peripheral surface of each of plural cylinders 4 on which the piston 3 makes sliding motion and a centrifugal force acting on the piston 3.
