PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel sheet for can, minimal in the occurrence of defects such as crack at the time of manufacturing two-piece can, etc., and excellent in baking hardenability, and to provide its production. SOLUTION: A steel sheet for can, minimal in defects and excellent in baking hardenability, which is composed of a steel consisting of, by weight, 0.002-0.030% Ti, 0.003-0.070% Nb, 0.0009-0.0080% C, 0.001-0.10% Si, 0.005-1.0% Mn, 0.001-0.050% P, 0.001-0.030% S, 0.0005-0.0080% N, and the balance iron with inevitable impurities and satisfying Ti(%)=(48/14))N(%) and (93/12)×[C(%)-0.0040]<=Nb(%)<=(93/12)×[C(%)-0.0005] and also has oxide inclusions composed essentially of titanium oxide, manganese oxide, and silicon oxide in the steel, and its production are provided.
